Political Control of the NDF
The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs (MODVA) plays complementary roles of Department of State and Headquarters of the Defence Force, co-locating the Chief of the Defence Force with the seat of political authority. President of the Republic of NamibiaBy the provisions of the constitution, the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Namibian Defence Force and have all the powers and exercise all the functions necessary for that purpose as defined in the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia (Chapter 15, Article 115, Section 2). Dr. Nangolo Mbumba is the President of the Republic of Namibia. He was sworn-in on Sunday, 04th February 2024. He succeeded, H.E Dr. Hage G Geingob, the third President of the Republic of Namibia. |

Parliament of the Republic of Namibia
The legislative power of Namibia is vested in the Parliament which consists of the National Assembly and the National Council with the power to pass laws with the assent of the President as provided in the Namibian Constitution.
The Parliamentary Standing Committees on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security and Cabinet Committee on Defence, Security and International Relations (CCDSIR) are bodies which were established to oversee the Defence and security issues of the country.
They also have to advise the Cabinet and the National Assembly on matters pertaining to Defence and security. By virtue of their mandate, these bodies have oversight functions over the activities of the NDF.
The Cabinet of the Republic of Namibia
The Cabinet consist of the President, Prime Minister and such other Ministers as appointed by the President from the National Assembly including nominated members for the purpose of administering and executing the functions of the Government.
There is a Cabinet Committee for Defence and Security (CCDS) chaired by the Prime Minister which looks after Defence and security matters and make recommendations to the Cabinet. The executive power of the Republic of Namibia is vested in the President and the Cabinet.
